You know how I said pages 111 to 122 would all be posted in one go on Valentine's day? I changed my mind. Between me and my sister cramming in the final recording sessions for our Fire Emblem Let's Play before I move out and my scumbag-skype-buddies dragging me off to binge on Borderlands 2, my work on the comic has been significantly delayed. So I'm gonna be posting at my usual rate of two pages a week each friday, starting today.

For the final confrontation, I wanted something that had the feel of being on the scale of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann versus The Anti-Spiral Being, and evoked the imagery seen at the end of Persona 3: The Answer. Setting it in a part of outer space that had not yet been swallowed up by the big yawn seemed appropriate.

Fitting music: youtu.be/q_2r4-4ar48

Getting a solid "Nia and the Anti-Spiral" vibe here.

I am disappointed in you, Gralo. If she is so foolish that she hasn't learned not to trust a word you say, why did you ever have to run from her? It can't be very hard to trick somebody that stupid. And if not, why are you wasting your time talking to her?

What truly disgusts me here more than anything. Is that ALL of the Mary Sue's actions ultimately turn out for the better, even the ones the Mary Sue apologizes for all ultimately make things better. In other words, even when Mary Sue "makes mistakes" everything turns out that it was a GOOD THING she made those mistakes. None of her mistakes actually made things worse.

And the fact she's able to negate the Elements, turn Fluttershy's Stare against her, and turn a containment completely around on the most powerful native magic user on the planet and is just a rookie (basically selling every single one of the heroes' trump cards), is supposed to make her LESS a Mary Sue?

I was skimming through the comic again because someone replied to one of my comments and I have to say...you're right. Nahmat made Fluttershy cry, but it was "okay" because Fluttershy learned to accept the dark part of herself. Nahmat tells Fluttershy she's sorry, but doesn't really make up for her personally. Then the there was the verbal and physical abuse that Celestia received. 8 pages worth of it. She doesn't really get any repercussions. Later after the battle when Nahmat owns up that she's wrong....in 1 page, Celestia is basically eh you're right. I'm a better person because of it, so I forgive you and would like to thank you. You're freaking right. It's really disgusting.

Nahmat negated the elements twice. The first time she shows up at the hospital, before the mane6 could use the elements she just tells them to stop it. When the containment was reversed the mane6 was bound, so they couldn't use the elements. Then when they actually used the elements against the villain it fails. When they recover and have a chance to help Celestia and Luna, they don't. The author doesn't like the elements. I also want to mention that Nahmat also bound Luna and Cadence too.

The worst situation is when you hear the AUTHOR speak rather than the characters speak. You shouldn't be able to tell, or at least it shouldn't draw you OUT of the story when a characters gets on their soapbox. When Celestia was bashed, I felt like I was reading what the AUTHOR felt.

The entire twist with the dead sky DIDN'T strike me as a shocking revelation that made me rethink the entire setting with a terrible but logical secret, it strike as THE AUTHOR BASHING THE SETTING and going 'NYA NYA!' attacking the fantasy setting's geocentric solar system.

The mary sue and the villain sue (which is now, thanks to the cartoons, looks like a villain sue version of Tirek now that we have an official magic eater in the show), are the HEAVY tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php… of this story, but at the same time they are the greatest WEAKNESS of the entire story. All they ever did was draw me OUT OF the story.

Sorry for that rant there. I know there are plenty who love and praise this comic and are entertained by it and thus have a fuller day after reading it, but I'm not one of them. I just have poor impulse control that makes me finish reading any comic I start reading whether I like it or not.

It's alright, I agree with you. I'm just glad I'm not the only one who who felt drawn out of the story. If you think your rant is bad, you should look at the incomprehensible wall of rant I wrote the other guy on page 104. I'm sort of similar to you. If I start a story, I'm going to finish it. A part of me kept hoping, maybe it's not as bad as I think and it'll get better. Only it never did. It's one thing to like the comic, but I got worked up when I noticed people in the comments saying this is the greatest thing to ever come out of the fandom. Don't people notice that something is amiss? He even changed the train because he didn't like it. This story is so full of the author's opinion and was one big soapbox, or fixfic. He really doesn't need his ego to be stroked any further. Of course, now I'm starting my own rant.

I like you. You seem to notice the flaws and say it better than I could. While I can't say if Nahmat is truly a Mary Sue. I do believe she gets dangerously close.

The problem is that the character is the author's voice box. And the author is the god of the story, that makes the character basically the voice of god of the story.

THANK YOU SIR! Seriously, thank you! Those were the words I was looking for! Can you further elaborate and explain why that is bad?

Because you REALLY get the feeling of a power fantasy from the author. Not the 'power for power sake' that many people who defend their character presume is the only definition of a sue. Here, we get the feeling of a writer who wants to stomp the guys who disagree with him because he feels like HE is the persecuted or brushed aside one.

No selling the Elements, The Stare, REVERSING a spell meant to hold her onto strongest magic user in the land, and think FREAKIN' BECOMING A ANTHRO (hinted to be her true form), and if RD did the Sonic Rainboom I KNOW she'd counter it somehow leaving RD the one smashed, or the whole reason I don't recall RD doing so is BECAUSE the author couldn't quite figure out a way to counter it.

It's a poorly used version of what happened in the Trial of Spider-Man issue several years ago in the comics, where Spider-Man is put on trial by Judas Traveller with Carnage as persecution and Kaine as defense, and Carnage proceeds to paint the worse possibly light on Peter Parker's life, until Spidy snaps and breaks his chains declaring he had had enough and that Carnage was twisting his life into something as awful as Carnage himself is.

Here, the Mary Sue has the 'I've had enough!' moment, that FOR THE WRITER is the embodiment of them giving the smack talk that the author feels the characters so richly deserve. But for those of with differing views on the characters and their actions, it comes across as high and mighty, judgement, AND BULLYING!!!

Rather like John Galt of Altas Shrugged.

Rather it feeling like a natural flow of events and the story: it comes across as something forcefully inserted into the world like the Villain Sue and Mary Sue themselves.

You don't hear the character speaking, you hear the author speaking, it draw you OUT OF the world rather than being drawn INTO the world.

A small point: she didn't no-sell the Elements, she interfered with their activation. It's still questionable whether the Elements have that vulnerability, but it is a different action than shrugging off a harmony blast.

This isn't a mary-sue if you believe it is then your standards are either unreasonably high or your experience with true mary-sues is very small.

One little confusion:

On the second-to-last panel: "You can pray on my doubts and fears all you like!"

Do you mean prey or do you mean pray, as in hope for?

So the battle takes place on many fronts.  While I never thought parrots creepy before, I will be taking a second look at them from now on.  ;)

And when this story is done, I'm totally saving it to my computer.  Because it's an interesting story and well drawn.
